synopsis

In his own habitat - the infamous Brussels neighbourhood of Molenbeek that appeared in the international news several times after terrorist attacks in Europe - director Koen Van Sande tells a story about paranoia and misunderstandings. His short film Lockdown is situated in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Brussels International Airport in March 2016, putting the multicultural neighbourhood of Molenbeek under even more pressure and racial prejudice. When the main character Louis picks up his son from a play date at their Moroccan neighbours' house, the street is put under lockdown and he is forced to stay put. But who are they looking for? And why is everyone behaving with such secrecy?
Alors que Louis va récupérer son fils qui était parti jouer chez leurs voisins Marocains, la rue est placée en état d’urgence ce qui les force à rester confiné chez eux. Mais qui la police recherche-t-elle ? Et pourquoi tout le monde se comporte avec autant de discrétion ? Comme une bête traquée, Louis cherche une issue de secours vers un monde qu’il ne connaît pas.
In zijn eigen habitat, het beruchte Molenbeek dat meermaals in het internationale nieuws verscheen, vertelt regisseur Koen Van Sande over paranoia en pijnlijke misverstanden. Zijn korte film Lockdown situeert zich in de nasleep van de aanslagen van maart 2016 waardoor de allochtone buurt nog meer gebukt gaat onder racisme. Wanneer Louis zijn zoontje ophaalt bij zijn Marokkaanse buren, komt hij door een lockdown van zijn straat vast te zitten, volledig omsingeld door speciale eenheden van de politie. Maar wie zoeken ze? En waarom doet iedereen zo geheimzinnig? Als een opgejaagd dier zoekt Louis een uitweg, gevangen in een wereld die hij niet kent.
