Damien raconte la vraie histoire de Père Damien, le prêtre renommé qui risqua sa vie pour aider à établir une colonie de lépreux sur l’île d’Hawaï en 1872 et qui fit l’objet d’une controverse politique et religieuse. Père Damien peut être décrit comme un héro sans frontière : fort, dominant et charmant tout le monde avec son habilité exceptionnelle à surmonter les obstacles. Grâce à son sens du commandement, il apporta de la discipline à une communauté qui, initialement, lui résistait.
