Towards the end of his life, Dieter Engel, Germany's most famous brothel owner, unveils his secret art collection.

synopsis

At the end of World War II, eight-year-old orphan Dieter Engel lived in extreme poverty. What followed was a time of turbulence and social change against the backdrop of the reconstruction of Germany; a time of sexual freedom. Engel set about creating a new kind of brothel, which gave insights into the previously hidden world of female sexuality, deconstructing prejudice and social mores. Before he died, he realised his dream of creating a museum featuring the rare art exhibits he had collected for nearly half a decade. This, he hoped, would contribute to the healing of a fragmented German identity.
Au sortir de la II Guerre mondiale, Engel avait 8 ans, orphelin de père et enfant très pauvre. Une époque troublée. Un monde en quête de sens et de liberté. Tandis que l'Allemagne se reconstruisait, Engel édifiait un nouveau type de bordel où l’humain comptait par-dessus tout. Le film apporte un éclairage nouveau sur ce monde sexuel caché, vu autrement. Le film déconstruit les préjugés à travers les différentes époques par le biais de voix féminines fortes. Son dernier rêve avant de mourir a été de créer un musée rassemblant ses objets d’Art collectés pendant 40 ans. Son imagination débridée et la création de son musée ont été une forme de guérison pour son identité allemande déchirée.
Aan het eind van de Tweede Wereldoorlog groeide het achtjarige weeskind Dieter Engel op in extreme armoede. Wat volgde, waren turbulente tijden en grote sociale veranderingen, tegen de achtergrond van de wederopbouw van Duitsland, een tijd van seksuele vrijheid. Engel richtte een nieuw soort bordeel op dat ons vandaag meer inzicht geeft in de verborgen wereld van de vrouwelijke seksualiteit. De film deconstrueert de vooroordelen en sociale zeden uit die tijd. Voordat hij stierf, realiseerde Engel zijn droom om een museum te creëren met de zeldzame kunstwerken die hij bijna een half decennium lang had verzameld.
