synopsis

Saints is a film about a small island becoming part of a bigger world. St Helena is the second most remote island in the world - 2,000 km from the nearest landmass - and it takes five days to reach its shores. However, this is all about to change. In October 2011, the British Government announced the construction of an international airport on the island. Now the 4,000 remaining inhabitants, who call themselves 'Saints', are preparing for a new future. Over the course of three years, we follow a few Saints in their daily lives as they try to cope with the changes that are coming their way. While fishermen face the competition of large foreign fishing vessels, small hotel owners are faced with the construction of five star boutique hotels alongside them.
Saints is een film over een klein eiland dat deel gaat uitmaken van een grotere wereld. St. Helena is het tweede meest afgelegen eiland ter wereld, 2000 km van de dichtstbijzijnde landmassa, en het duurt vijf dagen om het eiland te bereiken. Dit gaat echter allemaal veranderen. In oktober 2011 kondigde de Britse regering de bouw aan van een internationale luchthaven op het eiland. Nu bereiden de 4000 overblijvende inwoners, die zichzelf 'Saints' noemen, zich voor op een nieuwe toekomst. Over de loop van drie jaar volgen we de inwoners in hun dagelijks leven evenals de veranderingen die komen.
