synopsis

Bill Furlong works as a coal merchant in a small town in rural Ireland. A devoted husband and father, his life is turned upside down during the Christmas of 1985 when he discovers a shameful secret at the heart of his community. The film highlights the scandal of the Magdalene laundries, institutions run by the Catholic Church, which held young women captive and forced them into a life of servitude.
