The third season of State of Happiness follows the story of Norway’s oil boom into the 1980s. Anna is now a widow and a mother. She leaves her secure position at the Oil Directorate to join a start-up called Komponent, led by the charismatic engineer Sture. Her brother Rein, an offshore worker, joins her in the venture. Financial struggles lead to tension between the siblings when Rein suggests selling their family farm to fund the company. Anna manages to save the farm, and Komponent succeeds, making her a multimillionaire. In contrast, Rein loses his job due to the company’s success and turns to a right-wing political movement.
