In the 'poor crescent' around Brussels one child in three lives on the poverty line. But they can find refuge with BX Brussels of Vincent Kompany - a sports and social project. Stranger follows recent immigrant Senegalese football coach Moussa as he struggles to give them hope in their sport ... and in their life.
Dans le « croissant pauvre » autour de Bruxelles, un enfant sur trois vit sous le seuil de pauvreté. Le BX Brussels de Vincent Kompany, un projet sportif et social, a pour vocation d’accueillir ces enfants. L'Étranger suit le combat de Moussa, coach de football tout juste arrivé du Sénégal, auprès des jeunes joueurs d’origine étrangère pour leur donner espoir en leur sport… et en leur vie.
In de 'arme sikkel' rond Brussel leeft één op de drie kinderen onder de armoedegrens. Zij kunnen terecht bij het BX Brussels van Vincent Kompany – een sportief en sociaal project. L'Étranger volgt de pas geïmmigreerde, Senegalese voetbalcoach Moussa in zijn strijd om de jonge allochtone spelers hoop te geven in hun sport … en in hun leven.
In de buitenwijken van Saint-Louis, in Senegal, dragen zijn kadetten Moussa op handen. Als een tweede vader. Wanneer hij met een Belgische trouwt, laat hij alles achter en begint hij een nieuw leven in Europa. De verschillen zijn groot. Gelukkig is er voetbal. Bij BX Brussels krijgt Moussa een groep jongeren van 12 en 13 jaar oud onder zijn hoede. Bijna allen van allochtone afkomst. Ze hebben de stempel ‘onhandelbaar’ gekregen en zelden voetbal gespeeld. Verliescijfers van 0-8 of meer zijn geen uitzondering. In de kleedkamer probeert de coach de leefwereld van de jongeren te betreden. Een voetbalseizoen lang volgt L'Étranger Moussa en de jongeren op en naast het veld. Langs winst en verlies, respect en cultuurverschillen, sportiviteit, ruzie en vriendschap. Slaagt Moussa erin om de groep bij elkaar te houden en resultaten te behalen? Of nemen de problemen de bovenhand?
