synopsis

Sunrise Kids explores the historical tension between rebellion and conformity within post-war Japanese society. It tells the colourful and touching story of rebellious youths trying to find meaning in life and their place in the world. A chronicle of how bikers, rock-and-rollers, small-time crooks, hippies and vagabonds found refuge in surrogate families as a reaction to repression. The film brings to life a series of personal testimonies from different generations of delinquents, using a hybrid form of documentary and animation.
Sunrise Kids analyse la tension historique entre rébellion et conformisme dans la société japonaise d’après-guerre. Le film raconte l’histoire colorée, mais émouvante de jeunes rebelles qui tentent de trouver leur place dans le monde. Une chronique relatant la manière dont les bikers, les rockeurs, les petites frappes, les hippies et autres parias en tout genre ont cherché refuge dans des familles de substitution en réaction à la répression. En utilisant une forme hybride, entre documentaire et animation, différents témoignages personnels de délinquants prennent vie et le film brosse le tableau d’une société ultra-conformiste, offrant de moins en moins de place à toute forme de rébellion.
