synopsis

30-year-old Maria, who is deaf, has just moved into a new apartment. Simon, a young painter, comes to decorate a room. They both have their own languages, emotional perception and their own worlds outside the apartment, which she is longing for and he wants to leave. In the end, darkness brings them together and they find their own level of communication. Then, the room is finished.
Maria (30) est une femme sourde. Elle vient d’emménager dans un nouvel appartement. Simon (20) est un jeune peintre qui vient peindre une chambre dans l’appartement. Ils ne parlent pas la même langue et chacun perçoit différemment le monde environnant. Leur communication commence donc de façon balbutiante.
Ils ont aussi des attitudes différentes vis-à-vis du monde au-dehors de l’appartement. Elle y aspire ; lui veut le fuir. Au fil du film, nous voyons comment leur relation vis-à-vis du monde extérieur perd en importance, au profit de leur rencontre à l’intérieur de l’appartement. Finalement, c’est l'obscurité qui les réunit. Dans le noir, ils trouvent un moyen de communiquer avec sincérité. Et après ce temps passé ensemble vient le temps de la séparation. La chambre est peinte.
Maria (30) is een dove vrouw. Ze is net verhuisd naar een nieuw appartement. Simon (20) is een jonge huisschilder die een kamer in het appartement komt schilderen. Elk hebben ze hun eigen taal en ervaringswereld. Dit zorgt er voor dat ze initieel hakkelend en stamelend tegenover elkaar komen te staan.
Beiden hebben ze een wereld buiten het appartement waarnaar zij verlangt en hij van weg wil. Doorheen de film zien we hoe het samenzijn in het appartement begint te primeren op hun verhouding met de buitenwereld. De duisternis brengt hen uiteindelijk bij elkaar. In het donker vinden ze een eigen en oprechte manier van communiceren. En na hun samenkomen gaan ze ook weer uit elkaar. De kamer is geschilderd.
