synopsis

The Jacket is a portrait of Jamal Hindawi, a Palestinian who lives in exile with his family in the Shatila Refugee camp in Beirut. Together with his friends, he makes political theatre about their profound connection to their homeland, Palestine, and their situation as refugees in their country of residence, Lebanon. When Jamal sets out to find an important lost theatre prop, he witnesses how successive political and economic crises have disrupted an entire region and its people.
The Jacket dresse le portrait de Jamal Hindawi, un Palestinien qui vit en exil avec sa famille dans le camp de réfugiés de Shatila à Beyrouth, au Liban. Avec ses amis, il travaille sur des pièces de théâtre engagées qui expriment leur lien profond avec la Palestine, terre natale, et leur statut de réfugiés au Liban, pays de résidence. Lorsque Jamal entreprend un voyage à la recherche d'un accessoire de théâtre perdu, il témoigne de la façon dont les crises politiques et économiques successives ont perturbé toute une région et ses habitants.
The Jacket is een portret van Jamal Hindawi, een Palestijnse man die met zijn familie in ballingschap leeft in het vluchtelingenkamp van Shatila in Beiroet, Libanon. Samen met zijn vrienden maakt hij politiek theater over hun diepe verbondenheid met hun thuisland, Palestina, en hun situatie als vluchtelingen in het land waarin ze geboren zijn, Libanon. Wanneer Jamal een reis onderneemt om een verloren theater rekwisiet (prop) terug te vinden, ziet hij hoe de opeenvolgende politieke en economische crises een hele regio en haar bevolking hebben ontwricht.
