A man’s nightly progress through the streets of Beirut lays bare a city in crisis.

synopsis

Jamal Hindawi, a 50-year-old Palestinian, lives with his family in the Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, where he makes political theatre. Together with a group of friends, he is working on a play that tells the story of an old jacket that symbolises the Palestinian identity. But the evening before the play opens, Jamal loses the essential theatre prop. He starts a nightly journey through the streets of Beirut and is confronted with a city in radical transition. The successive crises and protests he sees leave deep scars.
Jamal Hindawi (50), éxilié palestinien, vit avec sa famille dans le camp de Chatila à Beyrouth, où il fait du théâtre politique et ne frequente que la communauté palestinienne. La veille au soir de la première présentation de la pièce, Jamal perd l’accessoire principal: une vieille veste. Desesperé, il part à sa recherche dans les rues de Beyrouth, une métropole qu’il connaît mal et où il n’a jamais pu trouver sa place. Il y decouvre un context politique en plein essor, une crise déchirante. Desormais, où peut-il retrouver sa place dans cette ébullition économique et sociale ?
Jamal Hindawi (50), een Palestijnse vluchteling, leeft met zijn gezin in het vluchtelingenkamp Shatila in Beiroet waar hij politiek theater maakt. Hij werkt aan een theaterstuk over een oude jas die de Palestijnse identiteit symboliseert. Wanneer Jamal de avond voor de premiere de theaterprop verliest, start hij een zoektocht doorheen Beiroet en wordt hij geconfronteerd met een stad in extreme verandering.
