synopsis

A group of people have been reading the same book together for 30 years, with each journey from the first to the last page taking 11 years. Once they reach the last word, a very enigmatic 'the', they begin again with the first word, 'riverrun'. The text appears inexhaustible; its interpretation endless and its inconclusive nature fascinating.
Une vingtaine de personnes lisent un livre ensemble depuis trente ans. Elles l'ont lu et relu, de la première à la dernière page durant onze années. Une fois arrivées au dernier mot – un 'the', très énigmatique –, elles recommencent au premier mot - 'riverrun'. Le texte s'avère inépuisable, son interprétation sans fin, le caractère ouvert de cette lecture exaltant. Au dehors de la pièce où se déroule la lecture, le monde semble cesser d'exister, à moins que – qui sait? – il n’existe justement qu’à cause d'elle.
Een groep mensen leest samen een boek gedurende dertig jaar. Ze hebben het opnieuw en opnieuw gelezen en elke lectuur van het boek, van de eerste tot de laatste pagina, nam elf jaar in beslag. Wanneer ze bij het laatste woord komen, het erg enigmatische 'the', beginnen ze opnieuw bij het eerste woord, 'riverrun'. De tekst blijkt onuitputtelijk te zijn, met een eindeloze stroom aan interpretatiemogelijkheden. De onbesliste aard van de tekst werkt opwindend. Het is alsof de wereld buiten deze leesruimte ophoudt met bestaan of misschien bestaat ze net daarom.
