synopsis

In this poetic trip around the world, the oyster – with its sensual and lavish associations - acts as metaphor to explore human drives and desires. Linking stories of a New York burlesque dancer, French Michelin-starred chefs, a Swedish oyster diver, a Japanese pearl-maker and a terminally ill English psychologist, this documentary by Willemiek Kluijfhout – narrated by the voice of desire – dives into the intricate nature of our deepest yearnings and quest for self-fulfilment.
In deze poëtische reis rond de wereld fungeert de oester, met al haar sensuele en somptueuze connotaties, als metafoor om onze menselijke driften en verlangens te leren begrijpen. Deze documentaire van Willemiek Kluijfhout, geleid door de stem van het verlangen, linkt de verhalen van een New Yorkse burlesque-danser, Franse chef-koks met Michelin-sterren, een Zweedse oesterduiker, een Japanse parelmaker en een terminaal zieke Engelse psycholoog aan elkaar, om zo de ingewikkelde kern van onze diepste verlangens en drang tot zelfontplooiing te doorgronden.
