Harsh living conditions have always brought people together in the Kupa region, on the Croatian/Slovenian border, but today the stream of life is cut in two by a razor wire fence keeping refugees from entering Slovenia.

synopsis

By constructing a steel fence through the beautiful Kupa region, Slovenia made Croatia a somewhat unwilling buffer for the influx of refugees trying to reach Europe from Bosnia. Because of the fence, tourism collapsed and many new dynamics were generated. The region has now become a focus for extreme right nationalists, human rights activists, politicians, police and border forces, as well as migrants and refugees trying to reach Europe.
De dag dat Slovenië besliste om een groot hek met prikkeldraad te installeren om de influx van vluchtelingen te stoppen, werd hun buurland Kroatië ongevraagd een bufferstaat. Kroatië is lid van de Europese Unie, maar niet van Schengen, en door dit nieuwe hek raakt het letterlijk afgesneden van de rest van Europa. Het dagdagelijkse leven aan de grens is er nagenoeg tot stilstand gekomen. De bewoners leggen zich echter niet zomaar neer hij die politieke keuzes.
