Young Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay dreams of riding in the Tour de France, and changing the history of competitive cycling.

synopsis

Biniam Girmay, a promising 17-year-old cyclist from Eritrea, starts out thinking that the Tour de France is only for white European cyclists. In more than 100 years of the race, only a handful of participants have been black. Yet as Biniam’s performance improves and he climbs up the international rankings, the Tour seems to be within his reach. His must get past Europe’s visa procedures, which stand between him and a place on an international pro team, and deal with the strain of leaving his young family behind in Eritrea. Then, at the age of 21, he wins his first Classic, proving that African riders can win big races. He becomes a cycling hero overnight, but can he change cycling forever?
