Locked and hidden in a truck, eight migrants try to survive the hardships of a long illegal journey across the borders. In the darkness they exchange their life stories. The accounts of their own journeys intertwine and overlap with biographical stories from a history of European emigration. The resonances between past and present narratives reveal that the history of Europe has always been marked by migration and flight.

synopsis

This fictional documentary was created through a collaborative process with contemporary migrants who embody and appropriate European emigration stories of the past and combine them with their own migratory experiences. Locked up and hidden in a truck, eight contemporary migrants from various countries try to survive the hunger and anguish of a long illegal journey across borders. Little by little, in the darkness of the lorry trailer, they get to know each other and share their life stories. But the stories they tell are not only their own journeys, but also personal stories of a century ago from European emigrants (Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Belgium).
Ce documentaire de fiction a été créé grâce à un processus de collaboration avec des migrants contemporains qui incarnent les histoires d'émigration européenne du passé et les combinent avec leurs propres expériences migratoires. Enfermés et cachés dans un camion, huit migrants contemporains de différents pays tentent de survivre à la faim et à l'angoisse d'un long voyage illégal à travers les frontières. Petit à petit, dans la pénombre de la remorque du camion, ils font connaissance et partagent leurs histoires de vie. Mais les histoires qu’ils racontent ne sont pas seulement leurs propres voyages, mais aussi des histoires personnelles d’émigrants européens d’il y a un siècle.
Deze fictieve documentaire is tot stand gekomen via een samenwerkingsproces met hedendaagse migranten die de Europese migratieverhalen uit het verleden belichamen en deze combineren met hun eigen migratie-ervaringen. Opgesloten en verborgen in een vrachtwagen proberen acht hedendaagse migranten uit verschillende landen de honger en angst van een lange illegale reis over de grenzen te overleven. Beetje bij beetje leren ze elkaar in de duisternis van de vrachtwagen kennen en delen ze hun levensverhalen. Maar de verhalen die ze vertellen zijn niet alleen hun eigen reizen, maar ook persoonlijke verhalen van een eeuw geleden van Europese emigranten (Oekraïne, Rusland, Italië, België).
