synopsis

Beginning with the personal experiences of three dancers - Bérengrère Bodin, Samir M'Kirech and TK Russell - Why We Fight? sets out to understand violence in the world, but also violence within ourselves. How do you deal with fear, frustration and disappointment in today's world, where you feel unheard or misunderstood? Is it at all possible to act in a non-violent way? Or is that privilege reserved for those who create dance, music, art or words? With their film, Alain Platel and Mirjam Devriendt pay tribute to the arts, but also to humanity, which always seems to balance between creating something spectacularly beautiful or horribly cruel.
Als we zonder woorden raken, neemt het lichaam het over. Tot zover zijn dansers Bérengère Bodin, Samir M’Kirech and TK Russell het eens als je hen vraagt: waarom vechten wij? Vanuit hun persoonlijke ervaringen gaan ze op zoek naar het waarom van geweld rondom zich in de wereld, maar ook het geweld in zichzelf. Hoe ga je om met angst, frustratie en teleurstelling in de wereld van vandaag, waar velen zich ongehoord en onbegrepen voelen? Is dat eigenlijk wel mogelijk zonder geweld? Alain Platel en Mirjam Devriendt brengen een ode aan de kunsten, maar evenzeer een ode aan de mensheid, die steeds balanceert op de grens tussen spectaculaire schoonheid en onnoemellijke wreedheid.
