EN - Le Ciel Flamand zooms in on the lives of three generations of women. Monique and her daughter Sylvie run a brothel on the border of West Flanders and France. Eline, Sylvie’s six-year-old daughter, is fascinated by the mysterious workplace of her mother and grandmother, but she is never allowed inside. A dramatic event turns their lives upside down and family ties are put under pressure. Le Ciel Flamand is the second feature by Peter Monsaert, director of the internationally acclaimed Offline.

NL - Le Ciel Flamand zoomt in op de levens van drie generaties vrouwen. Monique en haar dochter Sylvie baten een baanbordeel uit op de grens van West-Vlaanderen en Frankrijk. Eline, het zesjarige dochtertje van Sylvie, is gefascineerd door de mysterieuze werkplek van haar mama en oma, maar mag er nooit naar binnen. Een dramatische gebeurtenis plaatst de zekerheden in hun levens op een helling en zet de familiebanden onder druk.

Le Ciel Flamand is de tweede langspeelfilm van Peter Monsaert, de regisseur van het internationaal gelauwerde Offline.

FR - Le Ciel Flamand nous fait entrer dans la vie de trois générations de femmes : Monique, Sylvie et Eline. Monique exploite, avec sa fille Sylvie, un bordel au bord d’une route nationale à la frontière entre la Flandre-Occidentale et la France. Eline, la fille de six ans de Sylvie, est fascinée par le lieu mystérieux où travaillent sa mère et sa grand-mère, mais s’en voit constamment refuser l’accès. Un événement dramatique vient remettre en cause les certitudes de leur existence en mettant les liens familiaux à rude épreuve.

Home, Le Ciel Flamand and King of the Belgians to Göteborg

Fien Troch’s Home, Peter Monsaert’s Le Ciel Flamand and King of the Belgians by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth have been invited to the Göteborg International Film Festival (27 January – 6 February). The line-up also includes three co-productions with Flanders and a retrospective of the work of the Dardenne brothers.

Le Ciel FLamandNew Voices, a section showcasing films by upcoming directors in search of new trends, welcomes Monsaert’s Le Ciel Flamand. Home and Brosens and Woodworth’s royal odyssey King of the Belgians are to screen in the Five Continents programme, a collection of films from around the world.

BFI London takes Souvenir and Le Ciel Flamand

Peter Monsaert’s Le Ciel Flamand and Souvenir, directed by Bavo Defurne, have both been invited to the BFI London Film Festival (5-16 October). The programme also includes a documentary and several shorts from Flanders as well as various co-productions.

Le Ciel FlamandLe Ciel Flamand premiered in Toronto on 11 September, followed by a European premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival. In London, Peter Monsaert’s drama about three generations of women is set to appear in the ‘Thrill’ programme of the Festival’s official selection.
