synopsis

Trapped inside her house in Damascus, a city under siege, mother of three Oum Yazan has turned her home into a safe harbour for her family and neighbours, trying to protect them from the war outside. When bombs threaten to destroy the building, when snipers turn the courtyards into deadly zones and burglars break in to claim their dreadful bounties, maintaining the thin balance of routine inside the walls becomes a matter of life and death.
De film vertelt het verhaal van een Syrische familie die zich dag en nacht opsluit, niet meer buitenkomt en zelfs niet door het raam durft te kijken, de situatie is te gevaarlijk. Dit is geen gevangenis, maar het dagelijkse leven van een familie in Damascus, die volop in oorlog is. Een van de vele gezinnen die er alles aan doet om te overleven. Hun appartement is een soort goed georganiseerde bunker geworden, in functie van de schaarste. Het gaat erom de dag door te komen, elke dag opnieuw.
