Paul Cox (°1940) gained recognition as a sensitive and highly personal filmmaker after the surprise hit Man of Flowers at the Cannes Film Festival of 1983.

synopsis

Paul Cox (°1940) was born in Holland, but started a whole new life after he emigrated to Australia in the early 60s. He gained wider recognition as a sensitive and highly personal filmmaker after the surprise hit Man of Flowers at the Cannes Film Festival of 1983. This was followed by a string critically acclaimed films such as My First Wife, Cactus, The Life and Death of Vincent van Gogh and A Woman's Tale.The main subjects of his films are loneliness and alienation in our modern society. The documentary is mainly about Paul Cox, the man, and is therefore accessible to viewers who are not familiar with his films or the cinema in general. On the basis of clips from his films the documentary shows how Cox's life and work are strongly intertwined.
