synopsis

A Long Goodbye tells the story of Ida, a 72-year-old pianist living with dementia. In this VR experience, we walk in Ida’s shoes, as her reality is fading. When we interact with objects in her apartment and play the tape recordings of her husband Daniel, her world gradually comes to life, as if painted before our eyes. Like pieces of a puzzle, memories and conversations help Ida to rediscover herself. But we also discover Daniel’s hope to stay connected as he realises their remaining time together may be short. A Long Goodbye is a poetic experience about the impact of dementia, but above all about love and the long goodbye of two lovers who shared a life together.
A Long Goodbye vertelt het verhaal van Ida, een 72-jarige pianiste die leeft met dementie. In deze VR-ervaring beleven we een dag uit haar leven, terwijl haar realiteit langzaam vervaagt. Wanneer we met voorwerpen interageren en de bandopnames van haar man Daniel afspelen, komt haar wereld geleidelijk tot leven, alsof deze voor onze ogen wordt geschilderd.

Herinneringen en gesprekken helpen Ida om zichzelf opnieuw te ontdekken. Maar we ontdekken ook Daniels hoop verbonden te blijven als hij beseft dat hun resterende tijd samen misschien kort is. A Long Goodbye is een poëtische ervaring over de impact van dementie, maar bovenal over liefde en het lange afscheid van twee geliefden.
