synopsis

Between the hours of 10 and 12, a piece of news stops a family in its tracks, while around them life goes on as before. One minute Mike is at home messing around with his girlfriend Katja, the next the police are at the door with terrible news that turns their lives upside down. Together with the police officers, the two search for his parents to relay the news. During the car ride, time seems to stand still; the ordinary Rotterdam houses look just the same, and life outside carries on as normal. But the family in the patrol car remain in a state of shock. The contrast between the seriousness of the situation and the banality of the everyday leads to painful, absurd and at times comical moments.
Op een zomerochtend tussen 10 en 12, komt het leven van een familie tot stilstand terwijl de wereld om hen heen onverbiddelijk doorgaat. Het ene moment is Mike is alleen thuis met zijn vriendinnetje Katja en zitten ze wat met elkaar te dollen. Het volgende moment staat de politie aan de deur met nieuws dat hun leven totaal op zijn kop zet. In een estafette van slecht nieuws gaan Mike en Katja met de agenten op zoek naar Mike’s ouders. Tijdens de autorit lijkt de tijd stil te staan; de alledaagse Rotterdamse doorzonwoningen zien er doodnormaal uit, het leven buiten kabbelt verder. Maar het gezin in de patrouillewagen is in een verdoofde toestand geraakt. Het contrast tussen de loodzware situatie en de banaliteit van alledag leidt tot pijnlijke, absurde en soms zelfs komische momenten in Tussen 10 en 12.
