A tale of love, betrayal and death in the Breendonk prison camp, where Flemish Belgian Nazis stand guard over prisoners who were formerly their friends and neighbours.

synopsis

Resistance fighter Rik is a prisoner in Breendonk camp, where he is under immense pressure to betray is comrades, and his girlfriend Elisabeth. In a desperate attempt to survive, he tries to win the sympathy of Vaes, a Flemish SS guard. But Vaes plays a double game, collecting intelligence for the German camp commander and insinuating himself into Elisabeth’s life under a false identity. While Vaes is slowly taking over Rik’s life, he feels the war taking a turn. His only way out is to flee with Elisabeth. Driven by love and revenge, Rik manages to escape and fight his way back to her.
In de Vlaamse SS-gevangenis Breendonk wordt een terreur opgelegd aan alle gevangenen, waaronder verzetsstrijder Rik en zijn vader Leon. Rik komt onder enorme druk te staan om het verzet en zijn vriendin Elisabeth te verraden. In een poging om te overleven probeert hij de sympathie van SS-bewaker Vaes te winnen. Maar Vaes speelt een dubbelrol: hij verzamelt inlichtingen voor de Duitse kampcommandant en infiltreert onder een valse identiteit in Elisabeths leven. Terwijl hij langzaam Riks leven overneemt, voelt hij dat de oorlog een wending neemt. Zijn enige uitweg is vluchten met Elisabeth maar Rik slaagt erin te ontsnappen en zijn weg naar haar terug te vechten.
