synopsis

In front of you there is endless darkness. Behind you a sunlit landscape filled with the promise of a new beginning: Earth, saved by the sacrifice of your son. You are his mother. Nothing can erase your sorrow. You gaze into the abyss and weep forever. Compassie is the Flemish word for compassion, one of the principal emotions that the traditional pietà scene evokes. After his death, the body of Jesus was taken from the cross and laid on his mother’s lap. This scene has been depicted in thousands of paintings and sculptures. Compassie humbly attempts to continue that tradition. To offer a moment of silence, an opportunity for contemplation, a prayer, even for those who do not believe.
Devant vous une obscurité sans fin. Derrière vous un paysage ensoleillé empli de la promesse d'un nouveau départ : la Terre, sauvée par le sacrifice de votre fils. Tu es sa mère. Rien ne peut effacer votre chagrin. Vous regardez dans l'abîme et pleurez pour toujours. La compassion est une des principales émotions qu'évoque la scène traditionnelle de la pietà. Après sa mort, le corps de Jésus a été retiré de la croix et posé sur les genoux de sa mère. Cette scène a été représentée dans des milliers de peintures et de sculptures. Compassie tente humblement de perpétuer cette tradition. Offrir un moment de silence, une occasion de contemplation, une prière, même pour ceux qui ne croient pas.
Voor je is er eindeloze duisternis. Achter je een zonovergoten landschap vol met de belofte van een nieuw begin: de aarde, gered door het offer van je zoon. Jij bent zijn moeder. Niets kan je verdriet uitwissen. Je staart in de afgrond en huilt voor altijd. Compassie is één van de belangrijkste emoties die de traditionele piëtascène oproept. Na zijn dood werd het lichaam van Jezus van het kruis gehaald en op de schoot van zijn moeder gelegd. Deze scène is afgebeeld in duizenden schilderijen en sculpturen. Compassie probeert in alle bescheidenheid die traditie voort te zetten. Om een moment van stilte te bieden, een gelegenheid tot contemplatie, een gebed, ook voor wie niet gelooft.
