Drift, the story of a man looking for salvation, explores the poetic expressions of the human body by way of intuitive images. After losing his lover, he becomes mute and sets off on a mythical journey through a real but barren landscape. He fights his grief through beautiful but painful physical rituals that relate to ancient universal stories. As the past reveals itself, the man slowly disappears.
Drift est l'histoire d'un homme à la recherche du salut. Suite à la perte de son amour, l'homme devient muet et s'engage dans un voyage mythique à travers des paysages authentiques et arides. Il combat sa souffrance à l'aide de rituels physiques à la fois magnifiques et douloureux et développe un état primitif proche de celui de l'histoire universelle. Alors que le passé se révèle au grand jour, l'homme disparaît peu à peu. Drift est tourné dans un style documentaire, une réalité contemporaine. Le film nous entraîne dans une expérience contemplatrice intense, en explorant les expressions poétiques du corps humain à l'aide d'images intuitives.
Drift is het resultaat van een intense samenwerking tussen regisseur Benny Vandendriessche en performancekunstenaar Dirk Hendrikx. Hendrikx speelt een man die overmand wordt door verdriet na het verlies van zijn geliefde. Hij ontsnapt aan de realiteit en begint te zwerven. De film toont zijn melancholische tocht door barre, lege landschappen. De waanzin drijft hem tot poëtische maar pijnlijke rituelen. Langzaam haalt het verleden hem in en verdwijnt hij. Drift is gefilmd in een ruwe intuïtieve stijl, maar de expressieve beelden van het lichaam van de zwervende man bieden een sterke contemplatieve ervaring.
