In a quest for personal freedom and creativity, a woman tries to break free from the tension that exists between the individual and a collective female subjectivity.

synopsis

Her Voice is a blend of autobiographical reflections indistinguishably intertwined with the story of three female icons: Lola Montez, Hildegard von Bingen and Betty Boop, who are all played by Lisbeth Gruwez. A corporeal language of spasms and 'crazy' poses aids in dissecting the forced masquerade of women as 'femme fatale', 'mystic' and 'sex toy'. The visual vocabulary keeps a fine balance between suggestion and representation in order to provoke an intimate experience. Her Voice offers an enigmatic stream of consciousness that resists conventional narrative expectations. Somewhere between the desperate Boop-Oop-a-Doop's of a vintage Betty Boop and the film experiments of Maya Deren. Her Voice reflects a woman's subjectivity and her relation to the external world.
Dans sa quête de liberté et de créativité, une femme essaie de se libérer de la tension qui existe entre une subjectivité féminine individuelle et collective. Le rôle et la représentation des femmes est mis en doute. Her Voice est un mélange de réflexions autobiographiques parfaitement imbriquées dans l’histoire de trois icônes féminines: Lola Montez, Hildegard von Bingen et Betty Boop, jouées par Lisbeth Gruwez. Par un langage corporel utilisant spasmes musculaires et poses « folles », la mascarade imposée à la femme, en tant que « femme fatale », « mystique » et « jouet sexuel », est démantelée. Le style visuel oscille entre suggestion et représentation. Le film en devient la confession d'une expérience intime plutôt que la simple illustration d'une histoire.
In de zoektocht naar vrijheid en creativiteit tracht een vrouw zich te bevrijden van de spanning die er bestaat tussen een individuele en een collectieve vrouwelijke subjectiviteit. De rol en de representatie van de vrouw wordt in vraag gesteld. Her Voice is een mix van autobiografische reflecties die naadloos verweven worden met het verhaal van drie vrouwelijke iconen: Lola Montez, Hildegard von Bingen en Betty Boop, allen vertolkt door Lisbeth Gruwez. Met een lichamelijke taal van spierspasmen en ‘gekke’ posen wordt de gedwongen maskerade van de vrouw als ‘femme fatale’, ‘mystica’ en ‘sex toy’ ontmanteld. De visuele stijl balanceert op de grens tussen suggestie en representatie. Zodoende evoceert de film eerder een intieme ervaring met een confessioneel karakter in plaats van het louter illustreren van een verhaal.
