Eleven-year-old Leonie dreams of becoming a pig farmer one day, but that dream is threatened by the impending bankruptcy of her parents’ farm.

synopsis

Leonie’s dream is to become a pig farmer, just like her parents. She wanders happily around the farm, helping out in any way possible. She tends to the pigs, and is present from the fertilisation of the sows to the moment the truck leaves for the slaughterhouse. The family farm teaches her about the circle of life. However, new laws on nitrogen emissions have undermined the economic viability of the farm, and bankruptcy looms. Together with her cat Skeet, Leonie watches the last pigs disappear from the farm, and she realises that her dream of becoming a pig farmer might not come true.
Le plus grand rêve de Leonie est de devenir éleveur de cochons. Avec son meilleur ami le chat Skeet, ils gambadent joyeusement dans la ferme. Leonie aide vraiment à tout : fertiliser les truies, s'occuper des porcelets et enfin charger les cochons dans le camion pour l'abattage. Dans la ferme familiale, Leonie apprend le cycle de la vie. Mais avec le nouvel accord sur l'azote du gouvernement flamand, la ferme, l'œuvre de la vie de ses parents, risque de faire faillite. Avec son chat Skeet, Leonie voit les dernières truies disparaître de la ferme et se rend compte que sa vie de fermière n'est plus si évidente.
Leonies grootste droom is om varkensboer te worden. Samen met haar beste vriendin, de poes Skeet, dartelt ze vrolijk rond op de boerderij. Leonie helpt echt met alles mee: zeugen bevruchten, biggen verzorgen en uiteindelijk de varkens laden op de vrachtwagen voor de slacht. Op de familieboerderij leert Leonie de cyclus van het leven kennen. Maar met het nieuwe stikstofakkoord van de Vlaamse regering dreigt het bedrijf, het levenswerk van haar ouders, failliet te gaan. Samen met haar poes Skeet ziet ze de laatste varkens van de boerderij verdwijnen en beseft ze dat haar leven als boerin niet meer vanzelfsprekend zal zijn.
