synopsis

Lost Down Memory Lane, a documentary by Klara Van Es, is a slice-of-life set in Iduna, an apartment house where eight ageing women with dementia share their disease and their lives. Alzheimer's hasn't overruled all their mental abilities yet: they are scientifically speaking in the first phase of the disease, which means that flurries of lucidity, oblivion and absence take turns continuously. They are, in their own way, perfectly capable of telling and showing what losing your memory really is about. Their life, though on the edge of consciousness, goes on.
Lost Down Memory Lane est un documentaire réalisé par Klara Van Es. Il s’agit d’une ‘tranche de vie’ d’Iduna, un immeuble à appartement dans lequel huit dames âgées atteintes de démence partagent leur maladie et leur vie. Raconter cette histoire à travers les yeux des personnes atteintes de la maladie permet une approche simple, honnête et unique du sujet. La maladie d’Alzheimer n’a pas encore eu raison de leurs capacités mentales. Elles sont, scientifiquement parlant, dans la première phase de la maladie, ce qui signifie que des vagues de lucidité, d’oublis et d’absences se succèdent continuellement. Elles sont, dans leur position, les bonnes personnes pour expliquer et montrer ce que cela signifie de perdre sa mémoire. Leur vie, bien qu’à la limite de la conscience, continue.
