Residents in a psychotherapeutic institution collaborate with a film crew to create an account of their daily lives and experiences.

At La Devinière, a psychotherapeutic institution for people with severe mental health issues, the residents are not regarded as ill. They simply are, and are allowed to be. The filmmakers also approach these residents and caregivers as equals. Through a participatory workshop, we work towards a feature film within the documentary. Characters become residents, residents become characters
In la Devinière, een psychotherapeutische instelling voor mensen met een zware mentale problematiek worden de bewoners niet als ziek beschouwd. Ze zijn en mogen zijn. Ook de filmmakers benaderen deze bewoners en begeleiders op gelijkwaardige wijze. Niet enkel respectvol observeren, maar ook samen handelen. Tijdens een participatief atelier werken we naar een film-in-de-documentaire toe. Personages worden bewoners, bewoners personages. La Devinière doet ons nadenken over onze samenleving en norm(aliteit). De kijker die aanvankelijk verwonderd, soms onwennig, naar de bewoners kijkt, zal hun verhaal gaan herkennen als universeel menselijk.
