synopsis

Vida Dena’s feature documentary debut is an intimate and subtly expansive portrait of a Syrian family living in a house in Brussels, and who seldom leave the confines of its four pink walls. My Paper Life focuses on the two eldest daughters, Hala and Rima, and the family’s growing collection of drawings and dreams. As their colourful sketches come alive, the young women recall their journey and their home, their plans to study and to marry, and the other possibilities they hope this new life might have in store.
Vida Dena's documentaire-debuut is een intiem, subtiel en uitgebreid portret van een Syrische familie die in een huis in Brussel woont en zelden de bescherming van haar vier roze muren verlaat. My Paper Life focust op de twee oudste dochters, Hala en Rima, en de groeiende collectie van tekeningen en dromen van de familie. De kleurrijke schetsen komen tot leven, roepen de jonge vrouwen terug van hun reis en hun huis, hun plannen om te studeren en te trouwen, en alles wat ze hopen dat het leven voor hen in petto heeft.
