Outside - World explores the final years of the Nobel Prize-winning author Maurice Maeterlinck who, in his palace Orlamonde on the Côte d'Azur, was haunted by a nostalgic desire for his city of birth, Ghent.

synopsis

This documentary takes the perspective of the symbolist writer Maurice Maeterlinck who, during his years of solitude on the Côte d'Azur, is haunted by doubts. In a final soul-searching moment, he is confronted with his own soul talking in the voice of a young woman. She speaks to him in his own words: she quotes him and claims him. Unsure about the outcome, Maurice nevertheless gives in.
Hors Monde (Outside World) s’immisce dans les dernières années de vie de l’auteur Maurice Maeterlinck, prix Nobel de littérature, qui, dans son palace Orlamonde à la Côte d’Azur est enfermé dans un désir nostalgique de retrouver sa ville natale Gand, Belgique. Le documentaire adopte le point de vue de l’auteur symboliste qui, pendant ces années de solitude, est hanté par la peur. Lors d’une dernière recherche spirituelle, il est confronté à son propre esprit qui parle avec la voix d’une jeune femme. Elle lui parle avec ses propres mots, le juge. Elle l’entraîne dans un voyage symbolique dans lequel les certitudes s’avèrent des illusions, et la tromperie devient intime. Incertain de l’issue de ce voyage, Maurice se laisse pourtant entraîner.
