In the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1950s, Godelive, a young Congolese woman, lives in the Catholic boarding school of Mbanza-Mboma, the first Congolese French-speaking establishment. Her parents wish her to be westernised but the memory of her grandmother is in direct opposition to this plan.
Dans le Congo colonial des années 50, une écolière congolaise, Godelive, vit dans le pensionnat catholique de Mbanza-Mboma, première école en français pour congolaises, fait révolutionnaire pour l’époque. Elle s’y occidentalise, suivant le souhait de ses parents. Mais, le souvenir de sa grand-mère s’interpose…
In het koloniale Congo van de jaren '50 verblijft Godelive, een Congolees schoolmeisje, in de katholieke kostschool van Mbanza- Mboma. Het is de eerste franstalige school voor Congolezen en revolutionair voor die tijd. Godelive verwesterd er, volgens de wensen van haar ouders, maar in strijd met de herinnering van haar grootmoeder.
