synopsis

The Missing commence en 2006 lorsque la vie de Tony et Emily Hughes bascule suite à la disparition d’Oliver, leur fils de cinq ans. Le couple - qui ne parle pas le français - se retrouve au cœur d’une tornade médiatique dans un pays dont ils ne comprennent pas les règles. Ils comprennent vite qu’ils ne peuvent pas se fier à tout le monde. Huit ans plus tard, le couple est sur le point de se séparer. Tony n’a jamais voulu abandonner les recherches et lorsqu’il finit quand même à trouver une piste, il parvient à raviver l’intérêt de Julien Baptiste, le détective français qui était affecté à l’affaire dès le début…
Het leven van Tony en Emily Hughes neemt een dramatische wending wanneer hun vijfjarige zoontje Oliver spoorloos verdwijnt tijdens een gezinsvakantie in Frankrijk. Het koppel bevindt zich in een vreemd land, waar een taal wordt gesproken die ze niet spreken en regels gelden die ze niet begrijpen. Ongewild komen ze terecht in een mediastorm, en ontdekken ze met vallen en opstaan dat ze niet iedereen kunnen vertrouwen. Vandaag, acht jaar later, ligt het huwelijk van Tony en Emily op de klippen. Tony weigert nog steeds om de zoektocht naar Oliver op te geven. En wanneer hij na jaren zoeken weer op een spoor stuit, wekt dit ook de interesse van Julien Baptiste, de Franse onderzoeker die het onderzoek naar de verdwijning destijds leidde.
