Several years after my release from Syrian prisons 248 and Saydnaya, I decided to revisit my memories of my imprisonment. I invited four other survivors who had been held captive in the same prisons as me to tell their stories. Together, we reconstructed the facts. Tortured and robbed of our humanity while we were imprisoned, the film recordings become a collective, polyphonic testimony that constantly questions the representation of violence. Quelques années après ma libération des prisons syriennes 248 et Saydnaya, je décide de retrouver la mémoire de ma captivité. J’invite quatre autres survivants qui ont connu les mêmes prisons que moi à prendre la parole. Nous nous souvenons ensemble, nous reconstituons les faits. Torturés, niés dans notre humanité lorsque nous étions emprisonnés, l’expérience du tournage devient un témoignage collectif, polyphonique, qui ne cesse de se poser la question de la représentation de la violence. Comment raconter ce qui se passe de l’autre côté du soleil ?
Enkele jaren na mijn vrijlating uit de Syrische gevangenissen 248 en Saydnaya besluit ik mijn herinneringen aan mijn gevangenschap opnieuw te bekijken. Ik nodig vier andere overlevenden uit die in dezelfde gevangenissen als ik zaten om hun verhaal te doen. Samen reconstrueren we de feiten. Gemarteld en beroofd van onze menselijkheid toen we gevangen zaten, worden de filmopnames een collectieve, veelstemmige getuigenis die voortdurend vraagtekens plaatst bij de weergave van geweld. Hoe vertel je wat er aan de andere kant van de zon gebeurt?
