A team of midwives confront the challenges of life working in a busy hospital.

Ella leads a close-knit team of midwives who must function under the pressure of a heavy workload. They laugh and cry, triumph and struggle. And their work and home lives inevitably become tangled up. The healthcare providers and their patients come from all walks of life. Partly because of this, hospital is a potential pressure cooker. But everyone is united by the ultimate, hopeful vulnerability of a new life.
Ella geeft leiding aan een hecht team van verloskundigen, dat onder hoge werkdruk moet zien te functioneren. Er wordt gelachen en gehuild, getriomfeerd en geworsteld. En als je zulke lange werkdagen maakt kan het niet anders dan dat werk en privé behoorlijk door elkaar gaan lopen. De zorgverleners en hun patiënten vertegenwoordigen alle lagen van de samenleving. Mede daardoor is deze arena een potentiële snelkookpan. Maar uiteindelijk is er maar één ding in dit parallelle ziekenhuis-universum dat alles en iedereen met elkaar verbindt: de ultieme, hoopvolle kwetsbaarheid van een nieuw leven.
