The short documentary White Skin Closed Eyes revolves around the work of the Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere and the people that surround her. The artist is known for her timeless, fragile sculptures in which she surpasses perishablility. The film confronts the approach of the assistants with the dead material. We are in between reality and imagination; between living and dead matter. When an animal dies, a new work is born.
De korte documentaire White Skin Closed Eyes draait rond het werk van de Belgische kunstenares Berlinde De Bruyckere en de mensen die haar omringen. De kunstenares is bekend van haar tijdloze, fragiele beelden waarin ze vergankelijkheid overstijgt. De film confronteert de ambachtelijke handeling van de assistenten met de dode materie waar De Bruyckere mee werkt. Het is een kijken naar de intense concentratie bij het verroeren van een lichaam. We bewegen ons tussen realiteit en verbeelding, tussen levende en dode materie. Wanneer een dier sterft, wordt een nieuw werk geboren.
