Bento Monogatari selected for Cannes
Pieter Dirkx’s graduation short Bento Monogatari (Lunchbox Story) has been selected for the Cinéfondation Programme at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (11-22 May).
Bento Monogatari follows Yvonne, who is trying to put some new life into her ailing marriage by delving into the world of Japanese pop-culture. Every morning, she prepares a cute Japanese lunchbox (the 'bento' of the title) for her husband, Frank, who works in a waste collection centre. But Frank is far more interested in his beautiful young male colleague and secretly throws his lunchbox away before anyone sees it. Sharing the major roles are Bea Duchateau, Dirk Lavrysen, Bram Van Outryve and Sae Nozawa.
