EN - Over 10 episodes, In Flanders Fields tells the story of the Ghent-based Boesman family and their attempts to survive World War I. The story focuses on the five family members, each going through their own war over a four-year period. Fifteen-year-old Marie dreams of becoming a doctor but ends up instead as a nurse at the front line, where she eventually finds the strength to understand both her family and the world.

NL - In Vlaamse Velden vertelt in tien afleveringen het verhaal van de Gentse familie Boesman die probeert te overleven tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De focus ligt op de vijf familieleden die gedurende vier jaar elk hun eigen oorlog meemaken. Het centrale karakter in het verhaal is de 15-jarige Marie die ervan droomt om dokter te worden maar verpleegster wordt aan het front. Daar vindt ze uiteindelijk de kracht om op een genuanceerde manier naar de wereld en naar haar familie te kijken.

FR - In Flanders Fields raconte en dix épisodes l’histoire de la famille Boesman qui habite à Gand en Belgique, et essaie de survivre à la Première Guerre mondiale. L’histoire se concentre sur la vie de chacun des cinq membres de la famille, chacun traversant sa propre guerre pendant quatre années. Le personnage principal est Marie, 15 ans, qui rêve de devenir doctoresse, mais devient infirmière en première ligne. C’est là qu’elle trouve finalement la force pour se construire un point de vue équilibré sur le monde et sa famille.

De Ridder, At War and In Flanders Fields selected for FIPA

Flemish crime series De Ridder is part of the official competition at the International Festival of Audiovisual Programs (FIPA, 21-26 January) in Biarritz. Also to be seen at FIPA, commemorating the Great War with a special section, is documentary series At War. As previously announced, helmer Jan Matthys will be presented with the EuroFIPA of Honor for his entire works, followed by a screening of an episode of his upcoming war series In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders FieldsFor its 27th edition, the official competition of the International Festival of Audiovisual Programs covers ten fiction series, De Ridder being one of them. The Flemish crime series is surrounded by international hits as BBC’s Peaky Blinders or the American Hostages.

Director Jan Matthys receives EuroFIPA of Honor

Flemish director Jan Matthys is to receive the EuroFIPA of Honor at the upcoming International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes (FIPA), which takes place from 21-26 January in Biarritz. Matthys will be presented with the award for his entire body of work, including his latest prestigious war series In Flanders Fields, an episode of which will be shown in Biarritz.

Jan MatthysFor its 27th edition FIPA decided to present its EuroFIPA of Honor to Flemish helmer Jan Matthys, who is no unknown at the festival. In 2009, his prestigious series The Emperor of Taste scooped three FIPA d’Or prizes in Biarritz.

Attraction unveils In Flanders Fields at Mipcom

Montreal-based world sales outfit Attraction Distribution is presenting prestigious 10-part World War I miniseries In Flanders Fields at this year's Mipcom (7-10 October). Helmed by award-winning Jan Matthys (Quiz Me Quick), the series is scripted by Charles de Weerdt, Carl Joos (The Memory of a Killer) and Geert Vermeulen (Cataract), and stars Barbara Sarafian (Moscow, Belgium), Lize Feryn, Wim Opbrouck, Matthieu Sys and Wietse Tanghe.

Flanders Media Fund support confirmed for 12 new projects

The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) has confirmed financial support for 12 new TV series through its Media Fund. Among the approved projects are Menuet’s WWI series In Flanders Fields, the De Raconteurs-produced three-part doc 100 Years Vooruit and animated series What’s the Big Idea, produced by Skyline Entertainment.

A production grant of €1,150,000 was assigned to the ten-parter In Flanders Fields (In Vlaamse velden), a co-production between Flemish pubcaster VRT and Ghent-based production hub Menuet.
