synopsis

Two elderly brothers, living somewhere between France and Flanders between the 20th and 21st century, are trying to get rich growing flax. Nothing ever seems to change in their pre-war dark and dusty mill. Indifferent to time, they stick strictly to their inexorable routine of working seven days a week. While they try to ignore the changing world around them, their rural village transforms and suburbia closes in on them. Now everything is going to change. The authorities want to shut down the flaxmill. The family is in crisis but there is still hope as the son of the youngest brother wants to continue the business. Will the flaxmen adapt or disappear?
Quelque part entre la France et la Flandre, entre le 20^ème et le 21^ème siècle, deux frères âgés essaient de faire fortune en exploitant du lin. Ils vivent dans la Flandre post-industrielle et c’est comme si le temps s’était arrêté. Rien ne change dans leur moulin sombre et poussiéreux. Indifférents au temps qui passe, ils s’en tiennent strictement à leur routine en travaillant sept jours par semaine. Alors que les frères tentent d’ignorer le monde en pleine évolution, leur village campagnard se transforme et la banlieue les enferme dans celui-ci. Tout va changer désormais. Les autorités veulent fermer le moulin à lin. La famille traverse une crise, mais l’espoir n’est pas vain. Le fils du plus jeune frère veut continuer le commerce. Les exploitants s’adapteront-ils ou seront-il contraints à disparaître ?
