Melina, a nine-year-old Iranian girl, plans to sue her parents after their bitter divorce in a lively and bittersweet film directed by her aunt.

synopsis

Melina lives with her loving grandparents in the Iranian city of Isfahan. Her parents are divorced and neither her mum, nor her dad are able to take care of their daughter. Melina wants to live with her mum in Tehran, but both her unpredictable father and her new stepfather won’t allow it. When the strong-willed Melina turns nine, she has an idea: she wants to start a custody battle. But her plans are challenged by the complicated realities of adult life.
De jonge Melina woont in Iran bij haar grootouders. Haar ouders zijn gescheiden en geen van beiden is bereid om haar in huis te nemen. Melina zou graag bij haar moeder wonen, maar haar vader en stiefvader protesteren. Melina’s moeder zit in een voortdurende tweestrijd tussen het herstellen van een moeder-dochterband en het behouden van haar nieuwe relatie. Melina wordt negen en is daarmee in Iran oud genoeg om een voogdijproces te starten bij de rechtbank. Ze hoopt daarmee zelf te kunnen kiezen bij wie ze wilt wonen. Helaas wordt Melina al veel te snel geconfronteerd met de complexiteit van de volwassenwereld...
