Covid-19 has caused an unprecedented crisis in residential care homes, to which political parties have responded in an ineffective and indecisive manner. How does a government legitimise denying help to people who are clearly in need?

synopsis

In I Waited Night & Day, a group of patients and staff members of three different residential care centres have their say. We see how they experience the Covid crisis while being confronted with the inadequacy of the current care system. Utilising footage of the residents, archive material of bumbling politicians, interviews with all involved and Minister Wouter Beke, the film shows how the Covid-19 pandemic has painfully exposed the failure of political policy in the care sector.
Dans J'attendrai le jour et la nuit, un groupe de résidents et de membres du personnel de trois centres de soins résidentiels ont leur mot à dire. Nous voyons comment ils vivent la pandémie mais sont également confrontés aux obstacles du système de soins. En utilisant des images des résidents, des archives des interviews de toutes les personnes impliquées et du ministre Wouter Beke, qui tente de justifier ses décisions, le film montre comment la crise de Covid-19 a douloureusement mis en évidence l'échec de la stratégie politique dans le secteur des soins. Le documentaire nous fait réfléchir sur la façon dont nous considérons nos personnes âgées comme inférieur et comme lest.
In J’attendrai le jour et la nuit neemt een groep bewoners en personeelsleden van drie verschillende woonzorgcentra het woord. We zien hoe zij de pandemie beleven, maar worden ook geconfronteerd met de pijnpunten in het huidige zorgsysteem. Aan de hand van beelden van de bewoners, via archiefmateriaal van debatterende en stuntelende politici en interviews met alle betrokkenen en minister Wouter Beke die zijn beslissingen probeert te verantwoorden, toont de film hoe de Covid-19-crisis op pijnlijke wijze het falen van het politieke beleid van de zorgsector heeft blootgelegd. De documentaire doet ons nadenken over hoe wij als samenleving onze ouderen als inferieur en als ballast beschouwen
