A film about the emancipation of young Indian women in a rural area threatened by climate change and farmers' suicides.

synopsis

Set against the backdrop of escalating farmer suicides in India, Sanjeevani, a young farmer’s widow, discovers strength, joy and companionship in a group of resilient women who share the same loss. During peer-to-peer sessions with a local psychologist, she finds the courage to overcome her grief, tackle social taboos, and strive for financial independence and a better future for her children. While new suicides in her community test her determination, she finds healing in the act of confronting her grief and helping other women farmers like her in a deeply patriarchal society.
Tegen de achtergrond van het stijgende zelfmoordaantal onder boeren in India vindt Sanjeevani, een jonge boerenweduwe, kracht, vreugde en gezelschap in een groep sterke vrouwen die net zoals zij hun man verloren aan zelfmoord. Tijdens sessies met een plaatselijke psycholoog vindt ze de moed om haar verdriet te overwinnen, sociale taboes te doorbreken en te streven naar financiële onafhankelijkheid en een betere toekomst voor haar kinderen. Terwijl nieuwe zelfmoorden haar gemeenschap teisteren en haar vastberadenheid op de proef stellen, vindt ze heling in het confronteren van haar verdriet en het helpen van andere boerinnen zoals zij in een sterk patriarchale samenleving.
