synopsis

André Mahy, an artistic but unemployed director, gets an offer to make a movie. He accepts the offer enthusiastically. The script of the movie appears to be a 'Kiekeboe' comic story entitled Misstakes. This is where the main story begins, in which the Kiekeboe family has to deal with a gang of diamond smugglers. Suspense, humour, and a little bit of romance are the basic ingredients of this story. The story of André, who goes to extremes to shoot his film, contains the same elements. A fascinating dialogue develops between the fictional story of the family Kiekeboe and the real story of André Mahy and his film crew. At the end of the movie, the distinction between these two story lines fades away. Fiction and reality melt together in an endless tangle of plots of which the 'real' end is hard to find.
André Mahy, un réalisateur talentueux mais sans emploi, reçoit une offre pour faire un film. Il l’accepte avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme. Le scénario du film ressemble à une histoire comique intitulée Misstakes. C’est là que l’histoire principale débute, dans laquelle la famille Kiekeboe doit marchander avec une gang de trafiquants de diamants. Suspens, humour et un peu de romance sont les ingrédients de base de cette histoire. L’histoire d’André, qui va jusque dans les extrêmes pour tourner son film, contient les mêmes éléments. Un dialogue fascinant se développe entre l’histoire fictive de la famille Kiekeboe et l’histoire réelle d’André Mahy et de son équipe. A la fin du film, la frontière entre ces deux histoires disparaît. La fiction et la réalité s’entremêlent dans un enchevêtrement d’intrigues duquel la fin « réelle » est difficile à distinguer.
