What is it really like to give up a child for adoption?

synopsis

Motherhood is an emotive issue: while abandoning your child is frowned upon, adoption is generally seen as a good thing. Many movies and books deal with the growing pains of adopted children and many TV programmes with the suffering of adoptive parents. The woman who gives her child away never gets a voice. Here, two women talk about their unplanned pregnancies and why they felt forced to abandon their children. Making the decision is one thing, life afterwards is something else. How does one cope with it? How does one live with it?
La maternité est une thématique très sensible. Abandonner son enfant est vu d’un mauvais oeil. Pourtant, l’adoption est généralement considérée comme quelque chose de positif. Beaucoup de films et de livres se concentrent sur la peine des enfants adoptés, beaucoup de programmes TV abordent la question de la souffrance des parents adoptifs. Mais la femme qui donne son enfant n’a jamais le droit à la parole.
