The discovery of a severed hand in a Brussels canal forces Belgian police diver Kiki to confront guilt from the past - both her own and that of her country.

synopsis

Kiki is a police diver specialised in forensic diving and the retrieval of bodies. She has worked hard to gain the respect of the small team of machos that she leads. After Kiki fishes a severed hand out of a Brussels canal, she meets Chief Inspector Nick Cafmeyer, who arouses powerful feelings in her - the sort of complication that she could do without in her life. It appears that the hand has been hacked off while its owner was still alive. Nick believes it is some sort of score-settling in the drug world, but Kiki, due to her background, has a very different take on the case.
Plongeuse dans la police, Kiki est spécialisée dans la plongée médico-légale et la récupération de corps. Elle a dû batailler pour obtenir le respect de la équipe de machos qu’elle dirige. Le jour où Kiki repêche une main dans un canal bruxellois, elle rencontre le commissaire Nick Cafmeyer. Les analyses révèlent que la main a été tranchée sur une victime vivante. Nick pense au milieu de la drogue, mais compte tenu de son bagage familial, Kiki pose un autre regard sur cette affaire. Elle est convaincue que le crime a un rapport avec le Congo. Au début, Nick ne la croit pas. Jusqu’à ce qu’il s’avère que plusieurs familles fortunées aux antécédents coloniaux ont été menacées et extorquées.
Kiki is een politie-duikster gespecialiseerd in forensisch duiken en het bergen van lijken. Ze heeft hard moeten knokken voor het respect van het kleine team macho’s dat ze leidt. Wanneer Kiki een afgehakte hand opvist uit een Brussels kanaal, komt ze in aanraking met hoofdinspecteur Nick Cafmeyer. De hand blijkt levend afgezaagd. Nick zoekt het in een afrekening in het drugsmilieu, maar Kiki heeft, vanuit haar achtergrond, een heel andere kijk op de zaak. Ze is overtuigd dat de misdaad te maken heeft met Congo. Nick gelooft haar aanvankelijk niet. Tot blijkt dat er meerdere gefortuneerde families met koloniale roots bedreigd en afgeperst zijn.
