synopsis

It’s the spring of 1936, and the First International Surrealist Exhibition has just taken place in London. The exuberant Lord James invites the young, and as-yet unknown, René Magritte to his estate to pursue his work, alongside Salvador Dalí, Lee Miller, Man Ray and many others. Magritte doesn’t think twice. But after a wild first night at the estate, he wakes up next to the dead body of a young woman he remembers trying to seduce. The budding surrealist has no choice but to turn detective and find the real murderer.
Un Lord exubérant invite le Magritte, encore jeune et inconnu, à travailler sur son art dans son fabuleux domaine, il n'a pas à y réfléchir à deux fois. Parmi les autres invités: Salvador Dalí, Lee Miller, Man Ray et bien d'autres. Ce n'est pas un hasard: nous sommes au printemps 1936 et The 1st International Surrealist Exhibition à Londres vient de faire découvrir le surréalisme au monde entier. Après une première nuit sauvage à l'Estate, Magritte se réveille à côté du cadavre d'une jeune femme qu'il a tenté de séduire la veille. N'ayant pas vraiment le choix, il doit faire appel au détective qui sommeille en lui, afin de démasquer le meurtrier. Mais peu après, il y a une deuxième victime.
De nog onbekende René Magritte wordt door een excentrieke Lord James uitgenodigd om aan zijn kunst te werken op haar fabelachtige landgoed. Onder de andere gasten: Salvador Dalí, Lee Miller, Man Ray en vele anderen. Dit is geen toeval: het is de lente van 1936 en The 1st International Surrealist Exhibition in Londen heeft net het surrealisme onthuld aan de wereld. Na een eerste wilde nacht op het landgoed wordt Magritte echter wakker naast het dode lichaam van een vrouw. En hij herinnert zich niets van de avond voordien. Stierf zij van een overdosis of is er meer aan de hand? Het landgoed gaat op bevel van Scotland Yard op slot tot de schuldige gevonden is. Tot het volgende lijk valt...
